Frequently asked questions

  • Yes! Anytime pigment is implanted into the skin, it is considered a tattoo. The difference is that PMU pigments and techniques are designed to heal soft and natural for a more subtle, enhanced look.

  • Consultations are an important first step before any PMU service. It gives us a chance to meet (in person or virtually), go over the full process, review pre-care and aftercare, and answer any questions. Most importantly, it allows me to assess your skin and discuss your goals so we can choose the best style and approach for you.

  • Because PMU is a tattoo, I cannot perform any services on clients who are pregnant.

If you are breastfeeding, PMU can be done, but there is a small risk anytime pigment enters the body. While the risk is minimal, it is ultimately your decision, and I recommend consulting with your physician first if you have any concerns.

  • A touch-up is your second session after your initial procedure, typically done 6–12 weeks later. This is when we perfect the shape and build up the pigment to ensure long-lasting results.

A color boost is for existing clients who had PMU done 2+ years ago and want to refresh and enhance their pigment once it has faded over time.

  • If you have previous work done by another artist, you are considered a new client to me. A consultation is required so I can assess your current pigment and determine what is possible. In most cases, these appointments fall under the Color Boost category.

  • Most clients should plan for:

Up to 3 hours for the initial session

1.5–2 hours for the touch-up session

This includes numbing, mapping, and the full procedure. PMU is detailed work, and I always take my time to ensure the best results.

  • PMU typically lasts 2–3 years after your initial two sessions before a color boost is needed. Longevity varies based on skin type, lifestyle, and how well the area is cared for.

  • Tipping is always appreciated but never required. Your support means everything, and I’m grateful you choose to trust me with your face! If you’d like to tip, it’s always welcomed.

  • Aftercare varies slightly depending on the service, but the general rules are similar. You can view full aftercare instructions [here].

  • Pre-care helps prep your skin for the best pigment retention and smoothest healing possible. You can view full pre-care instructions [here].

  • Yes! If you are prone to cold sores, you’ll need to speak with your doctor and start an antiviral prescription (such as Valtrex) prior to your appointment to prevent an outbreak.

  • Some discomfort is normal. I use topical numbing throughout the service to keep you as comfortable as possible. Most clients report little to no pain, and some even fall asleep. Everyone’s pain tolerance is different.

  • Full healing takes about 6 weeks, but the initial healing period is usually 10–14 days.

The first week is when you’ll want to be extra gentle with the area and follow aftercare closely. When aftercare instructions are followed properly, healing is typically smooth and easy.
